The Wisdom and Folly of Solomon

1 Min Read

Solomon inherited a great and prosperous kingdom when he succeeded his father David as king of Israel. He humbly asked God for wisdom and understanding to govern the people justly, and God granted him riches and honor as well (1 Kings 3:11–13).

With God’s blessing, Solomon became famous for his wisdom, writing many of the biblical proverbs. And he went on to build the spectacular temple of the Lord in Jerusalem.

But, as the years went by, Solomon wandered far from God. In today’s message from his video teaching series Dust to Glory, R.C. Sproul examines what went wrong. Despite his wisdom, Solomon disobeyed God. He took several pagan wives, and their influence led him into idolatry.

So what can we learn from Solomon? His proverbs can certainly teach us great wisdom. Yet his life story warns us to beware the downward spiral of sin.
