Who are you? What is your life all about? The answers to these questions won’t be clear unless you know where you’ve come from and where you’re going.

As people created in God’s image, we find our identity in Him. And as Christians bought with the precious blood of God’s Son, we receive the promise of an eternal home in His presence. Knowing all this, our privileged purpose as Christians is to live humbly under God’s authority and to live joyfully for His glory. This is life coram Deo—“before the face of God.”

Every moment of our lives takes place under the watchful gaze of God. But rather than leaving us exposed to His holy judgment, God has taken away our sinful rags and covered us in the righteousness of His Son. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we’re set free from sin’s shackles to fulfill our life’s purpose—set free to live for Him.

R.C. Sproul often reminded us that Christians live coram Deo, “before the face of God.” Since the Lord has created and redeemed us, our whole lives belong to Him. God is King over our every breath, each of our relationships, and all the work of our hands. No room remains for divided interests—only single-minded, wholehearted devotion to the One who made us for Himself.

Because the eyes of God are always on us, our eyes should never leave Him. As we submit our minds to His teaching and hold our consciences captive to His Word, God will give us all we need to live faithfully before His face. Not only that, but the Lord promises to give us what our hearts desire most: to see His face. At the end of life’s journey, our faith will finally become sight as we are ushered into the endless enjoyment of God Himself.

Let’s face today with that day in mind, living in joyful submission to the One who is our all in all.
